We usually use the in front of a specific sports team. Also, it is tempting to see LA Clippers as a collective nouns but sports teams are plurals.

Other than the is rather than the are I don't see a problem with this sentence. The only thing is I am curious why you wanted to replace an easier time with it easier. Personally I prefer the use of an easier time. The word it in the sentence is not very well define without extra content. What is it?playoffs? pie-eating contest?
