Dystopic painted future???

Goodmorning,

Here's an excerpt from my scientific manuscript about antibiotic resistance :

"Some even mention that, unless preventive strategies coupled with newer drugs development are established soon, we are approaching a “pre-antibiotic era”. The reality of this dystopic painted future has yet to become evident."

Is dystopic correct in this context? Considering it is more regular used in describing (fictional) societies.

Thanks in advance,
Brother Doobie
