Does this make sense?
I found his hobby collecting stamps.
The real question is what the word 'collecting' is.
Is it a gerund or a participle?
His hobby is collecting stamps.
In this case, it' obvious that collecting is a gerund.
But people say that gerund can't be used for these kind of above sentences.
If so, collecting has to be a present participle, right? But his hobby can't be a subject for the verb, to collect, right?
I know "I found his hobby to be collectiong stamps" would make better sense. But I'm wondering the above sentence can be right or not.
Thank you.
