No, I had not previously encountered the word. I did look it up and want to clarify that my explanation was of the natural uses and ability to speak normally; but where (because of childhood development and exposure) people do not pronounce the middle or terminal "r" in certain words. They do not have a handicap, merely a natural tendency not to pronounce it.
