Definite article with the dentist
Why do we say :
how often do you go to the dentist?
I mean why do we use the definite article ? The explenation I found is that its because a specific person, so we know who we talk about. But in many cases people go to a diffrient dentist every time, so why do we assume in this kind of question that its "the dentist"?

There's no special reason for it. It's just a fixed phrase. There are many similar ones: He went to the cinema yesterday.
