Thanks - me too. I have seen both being used widely so, as you said, they both appear valid.

I like to use "or" with "whether".
I don't know whether they're coming (or not).
They haven't decided whether or not they'll go to Europe this summer.
In some cases, it just doesn't "work" without or.
Whether you agree [.....] with me [.....], that's the way it will be. [or disagree] or [or not]
