Letter Writing

cover letter for a 1rst job after an alternance training, IT

Hi, first of all thanks a lot for that forum, it proved to be usefull when writing my cover letter.
A little explanation before pasting the cover as it might help to understand it
I'm applying for a job i heard of on a website, IT technician in a law firm in paris, the ad is pretty clear that english is mandatory although it was not required i decided to write my cover letter in english (thinking it might be a plus for the HR staff)
on a side note the company is of English culture
needless to say thar formal english is much more difficult than plain spoken english =à)
anyway here is the letter, any comment, correction?

Dear Mr. Smith,

As I indicated in our telephone conversation earlier, I would like to apply for the IT technician position you advertised on cv.com. From my research on your web site, I believe there will be a good match between my competences and your requirements.
My vocational training certificate allowed me to acquire theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and the alternance training gave me valuable professional skills. During the 2 past years in my placement company (Ecole d’Etat-Major, ministère de la défense) I was in charge, along with my apprentice master, of the installation and configuration of computers, servers and software, of French and foreign end-users support, in a secure environment.
I am also conscious of your firm values and I am willing to “go beyond the 9am to 5pm role”, and feel that a strong support team in asset in a competitive business like yours.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I can be available for interview at your convenience, and look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Jhon Doe
