I am teaching about giving opinions and was wondering what the types of sentences/clauses/ phrases are in these sentences. Please note the topic is women working, and the examples were meant to be provocative although many of my students would agree as well!
I have added my guesses too.
1. As far as I am concerned, women should stay at home. subordinate adverbial clause, main clause.
2. I am (not) convinced that giving women the same pay as men will make them happy. The whole sentence is the main clause
that giving women the same pay as men will make them happy. This is a subordinate noun clause.
3. In my opinion/view men should do an equal amount of house work as women. THIS ONE IS CONFUSING FOR ME.
In my opinion ummmm wild guess this is a prepositional phrase? I give up... HELP
My opinion is that men will lose their masculinity if they do the washing up. The whole sentence is the main clause.
that men will lose their masculinity if they do the washing up. This is a subordinate noun clause which is also a complex sentence with a first conditional.
4. I (firmly)believe women should never leave the house without their man. The whole sentence is the main clause.
women should never leave the house without their man. This is a subordinate noun clause.
5. I (definitely) feel/think that men and women were born equal. The whole sentence is the main clause.
that men and women were born equal. This is the subordinate noun clause.
6. I am inclined to believe that men have more muscle and should therefore do more work. The whole sentence is the main clause.
that men have more muscle and should therefore do more work. This is a subordinate noun clause.
Thanks, I am slowly learning, and still need back up to check.
