Correct use in past tense, 3rd person singular...
Is this acceptable and/or correct for use in PAST TENSE, 3rd PERSON SINGULAR:
Rob was in shock, clutching the mobile in his hand but without a thought in his head or a word to say.

Anonymous Is this acceptable and/or correct Yes. It is acceptable and correct. There is nothing special about the third person singular of the past tense with regard to the use of accompanying participial phrases.
