Complex sentences
In my English GCSE book it gives an example of a complex sentence:
The rain poured down, hitting the window like bullets.
But the above sentence has no coordinating connective.
Can anyone help?

You don't need a coordinating connective in a complex sentence. Coordinating conjunctions are used in compound sentences. The subordinate clause (and every complex sentence has at least one) is the participle clause hitting the window like bullets .
