Compare and contrast

Hello dear teachers , Merry Christmas to you all.

I'd be grateful if someone could help me with these sentences.It means a lot to me.

Actually, I felt kind of bewildered.

1.However, I always buy funky, trendy clothes. in contrast, Jack is more conservative.And it won't be surprising for any one to learn that unlike my husband , I tend to like loud colors and bold prints whereas he prefers a more subdued look.

2. Similarly I feel self -confident that whatever I wear will be OK; however, Jack can be a little self conscious and always tries to wear non controversial clothes.

• As far as I know, we use connectors in sense of compare or contrast in order to connect sentence 1 to sentence 2. so I'd like to know why two connectors were used in sentence 1.
• In sentence 2, there isn't any sense of similarity so why did the writer use" similarly" in the beginning?

Is it right to say as well?:

However, I always buy funky, trendy clothes , Jack is more conservative.
