Can someone tell me how committment differs from obligation and promise/pledge?

Committment and obligation are very similar. If I agree to be on a committee, to sing in the church choir, to serve meals to the homeless, to deliver a work product by a certain day, I have made a committment to get that done. It is now an obligation I have.
