Hello,

could anyone check whether I got the adjectives right (and possibly offer a better word if necessary)? On the left, there is always a 'definition' or some simple adjective and I am to find a better way of expressing these ( = right column).

an effect which helps = a positive/beneficial effect

an effect nobody expected = a surprising/startling effect

a very funny effect = a humorous effect

an effect that put things right = a stabilizing effect

2. change

a very big change = a sea change

a very small change = a minor/slight change

a very very small change = a subtle change

a change that upset people = ?

a change that made you happy = a pleasant/nice/refreshing change

a change that pleased everybody = a welcome change

3. problem

a very very small problem = a petty problem

the basic problem = a fundamental/key/central problem

the real problem = a serious/significant problem

the most urgent problem = a pressing/ an immediate/an acute problem

a problem that happens often = a common/chronic/recurring problem

a problem that can’t be solved = an insoluble/insuperable problem

a problem that makes you feel bad = a daunting/an annoying problem
