Are we really in control of our emotions when it comes to choosing a partner or can it all be down to chemicals?



Can you tell me what 'chemicals' means here, please?

Can I replace 'be' with 'come'?

EDIT: I think chemicals mean some chemical substances in a brain

I've often seen "chemistry" used in this context, so I assume that "chemicals" is being used in the same way. It is related to pheromones, discovered in insects, which are special chemicals used in attracting and selecting mates. The evidence of such chemicals existence is much weaker for animals, but the myth of a special "chemistry" (literally) between two individuals persists.
