Checking my paragraph

Hi guys, I need someone to check this paragraph for me.
Here it is:
On the other hand, Rousseau expressed broadly what enlightenment is and gave many words that make us aware of the obstacles that hamper us from being free. He said "man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains". This tells that people who enslave themselves; not the god or any other power. We were born free, but there are many chains imposed on us because of the customs, the habits and sometimes our beliefs. He also said "the only one that is natural, is the family". The first institution we were taught in is the family. Our parents are the first instructors who taught us how to behave, what to believe and sometimes what to be in the future.
