Information Processing theory explains what is going in learner’s mind through thinking, remembering, understanding andconstructivism. “It investigates what goes on side learners , focusing on cognitive processes involved in learning, memory and performance” (Ormrod, 2006,p19). The memory is the places where information is saved. It includes the information that we have learned from school and the environment around us. Beside, learning means that “ It is long-term change in mental representation or association due to experience” (p18). Each human has three types of memory which plays role in learning process. They are the sensory register, working memory and long term memory. Each of these has own job. Short-term memory is a model of memory where information does not stay for a long time. Learning mostly uses or works in a short term memory because there is a lot of information which the student learns or receives either in text book or during class. For example: in last semester, I studied the dates of War World II, but now I do not remember all of them because the dates was saved in working memory. In contrast, long term memory reserves information in our mind for a long time, but it is not necessary to remain it forever. There are steps to save information in our mind for a long time in learning. For example, my strategy in studying is effective when I rehearsal or use the information in drawing or playing games. Therefore, learning and memory are intertwined, and both have worked with each other. This essay will discuss the role of memory in learning and what is the effective strategies in learning. (Ormrod,2008)
