Bumper Sticker
I saw a bumper sticker today with the following text from the Islamic Hadith:
"The ink of the scholar is more holier than the blood of the martyr."
I thought it was a little funny because I have a hard time imagining a scholar using the words "more holier."
Realizing that it was probably just an awkward English translation from the Arabic I did a quick web search and came across several alternate English renderings:
"The ink of the scholar is holier than the blood of the martyr." "The ink of the scholar is more precious than the blood of the martyr."
"The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of the martyr."
Any of which would probably sound better, yet make for a far less ironical bumper sticker.
