To correct it, say

Despite the rain, we enjoyed our holiday.

You can do a despite phrase with being, but it has to apply to the subject of the sentence which follows.

Despite being depressed, she wrote an excellent comic sketch.

This says she was depressed, but she wrote the comic sketch anyway.
