Being like vs pretending
What is the difference between “being like” and “pretending to be something “??
Ex:
Being like a tree
Pretending to be a tree
And I would like to know if there any other way to say that

Generally speaking "being like a tree" is simply an adjectival simile to describe something. " Whereas pretend to be a X describes the (usually conscious) attempt to be like something. The soldiers pretended to be trees so that they could snipe on the enemy without being noticed.
