Can you breifly explain the meaning of "as is"?

I have an example as follows:

The car is rented as is.

I shall be grateful for your clarification.

As is = as it exists at the moment . Here, the car may have no hub caps or dents in the fenders, and they won't fix the problems before they rent it to you.
