As a humble opinion to you, as I always mention to my students, I would suggest that you consider the main focus and overall "picture" of a sentence or passage after reading it.
There are two 'as' in the sentence. I think they are both wrong. Can any teachers here please comment on them?

The first phrase is unidiomatic. The second is fine. There isn't a really smooth way of using both in the same sentence.
