What did your father use to do in Africa? (reply) He used to be a Safari guide. (refers to the past)

As a question, it's less common, and I believe it's considered lower register, or possibly ungrammatical. (used to do)

I think "used to do" is used in a different sense in BrE. Do you drink much? (reply) Used to do.

Question 2:
Are there any such words as individual level and individual wise in English? Each student should be taught at his own individual level. (I think this is okay.)

I think "individual wise," or "individual-wise" is a nonce word, meaning "in terms of" or "on an individual basis." Sometimes it's added as an afterthought.

Her voice sounded terrible! - I mean pitch-wise. (in terms of pitch/intonation - she sang "out of tune")

I learned the term "nonce word" from Mister M. It's in the dictionary!
