Another passage......am I annying you guys? sorry....
I'm really sorry......T.T please help me.......
1. 'The Constitution is or was a moderate despotism, tempered by a Chamber that might or might not be elected'
The 'might or might not be elected' part is especially mysterious to me.....
2.'it sufficed, I say, for our Minister to advance any opinion to have it instantly contradicted by the French diplomatist.'
The whole sentence is just lost to me.
3. 'The Princess was married by proxy, at her father's residence, by the Count de Schlusselback.'
I don't understand this sentence.
