An adverb in 'as ~ as' pattern
My friend ask me a question. I do not know if I can put it in a clear way.

1. Nothing illustrates as clearly our changing attitudes toward the value of experience as the fate of these two words.
Adverbs describe (only??) adjectives or adverbs. (If I am correct)
Q) In the above sentence, what does 'clearly' describe?
To me, it looks that it does not describe either an adjective or an adverb in the sentence?
'Changing' is only an adject in the sentense. But, I don't think it can give a meaning only to 'changing'
Can 'clearly' describe the noun phrase('our changing attitude toward the value of experience')?
If there is a sentence like 'He is as tall as Mary. Then the emphatic point within 'as ~ as' is 'tall' without doubt.
Then what is(or can be) an emphatic point within 'as clearly our changing attitudes toward the value of experience as' in the above sentence?
