Adverbial participle clause
A woman passed by me giving off a subtle scent of perfume.
Regarding the above sentence:
Q1 I think that the part "giving off a subtle scent of perfume" is an adverbial clause which modifies the main clause "A woman passed by me." Is that right?
Q2 I consulted a couple of grammar books and found out that apparently, adverbial participle clauses are always separated by the main clause with a comma. Is that correct? Or, is it up to the writer whether a comma is used in a sentence like this?
