About "keep score"~

There is a sentence in Bill Clinton's book My Life: That's the way I kept score. Could anybody tell me what does "kept score" mean? I simply couldn't understand that. Thanks a lot!

Without context, it's hard to say. It could be anything from how he rates his life to how he keeps track of who has caused problems for him.
