About an expression like "into the night."
Hello. Sir.
I sometimes see expressions of the kind into the night as in (1) below,
but I am not sure exactly what it means and how to use it.
(1) I worked hard into the night.
I'd appreciate it if you answered the following questions.
Question (i) I guess that into the night means until the night. Is that right?
Question (ii) Which do you usually use, how long or how far, to make a question?
(2) a. How long into the night did you work hard?
b. How far into the night did you work hard?
Question (iii) I suppose that into the night is usually used with verbs denoting a duration,
but not with verbs denoting a punctuality (e.g. die, arrive), as in (3).
Are sentences in (3) correct?
(3) a. John arrived into the night at the hospital.
b. John died into the night at the hospital.
Thank you.
Thank you.
