A woman's emotions can hold out...

Hi

I am sure I have asked this question somewhere before, but neither do I remember the place and time nor the explanation given. So, could you please explain the yellow part to me?

I now realize that it was too much to expect that I would ever gain her affection, but I should at least have gained her confidence. I have always believed in the theory that a woman's emotions can hold out only for so long against the impact of a man's mind.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom, It's hard to interpret. Perhaps 'the impact of a man's mind' refers to his powers of logic, as contrasted with the woman's emotions. Or perhaps it just refers to the strength of his mind, the strength of his character.
