A question about dealing with an old doorway
Hello,
A few hours ago I posted another similar thread, but I'd like to have it closed, since there are a few things I forgot to mention. I spent some time on YouTube and other websites and it seems that: "close up" and "fill in" are very common in sentences like: "Could you help me close up/fill in that doorway, please?". What verbs would you normally use in this collocation? Are there any differences in meaning and does it matter what materials we are using? It could be bricks, drywall/plasterboard, etc. Would your choice of a verb depend on the materials?

Hi In the UK I think we would say that you are blocking up an old doorway. Strictly, that would mean using bricks, but you could say the same if you were using wood Dave
