A period after a period

Hi,

What do you do when the last word in a sentence is ended with a period?

For example,

This was suggested by Olga et al.
I have stuff like a chair, book, mouse, etc.

If you can write well, you should be able to write in complete sentences. Hence, the problem should not exist.
