My life as a boy was like a line-broken kite. It's gone so far away that I can't recall what I was like!

I wrote the above on my blog to record what I felt at the moment! What do you call the kite when its line is broken and is sure to fly away? We call it "a line-broken kite" here; I wonder if it sounds right to you. Thanks.

I am not sure if there is an official term for a kite that has had it's string broken. The term "line-broken kite" makes sense, but I think your sentence is kind of vauge as to what you mean. Was your life as a boy always "like a line-broken kite" or was there some point in your boyhood that your life became like a line-broken kite?
