Hey there. I've got a question for you guys. As the title suggests, it is on abbreviations. I'm just going to quote right off a forum, as their version.
The title of a game; "An SMWC Production", which they will refer to in the post. (SMW - Super Mario World)
Quote:
"An SMWC Production" < -- Uses "An" because of how you pronounce the acronym: "ess em w see" A Super Mario World Central Production" < -- Uses "A" because of normal grammar rules."
Would it be correct as "An SMWC Production", or "A SMWC Production"? Does the way you speak the abbreviation count as a vowel?
Top answer
Does the way you speak the abbreviation count as a vowel? -- Yes. Some are spoken as a word (a NATO conference, an ASEAN summit) and some are spoken as letters (an SPCA truck, a PTA meeting).
