Since access to education is not an issue anymore, the department plans to set its focus now on uplifting the quality of education.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>According to DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, the enrollment rate in the country is showing big signs of improvement, and the number of school dropouts had significantly decreased, which means more students are in school.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In an interview, Briones shed light on the upcoming plans the department has in mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">We believe that we should place our focus on quality because our Constitution is very clear that it doesn&#8217;t only talk about access but specifically on the quality that should be available.<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Secretary was clear that their focus starting 2020 will be the improvement of the quality of education through their\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Sulong Edukalidad&#8221;<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0program<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Sulong Edukalidad program<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The department will rely on its\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Sulong Edukalidad&#8221;<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0program, which focuses on four key reform areas termed as\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">KITE<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">K to 12<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Curriculum review and update<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Improvement\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of learning environment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Teachers&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">upskilling and reskilling<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Engagement\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of stakeholders for support and collaboration<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The update to K to 12 is already on the works. Textbooks and the whole curriculum itself is being reviewed and will be tailored to cater to the standard of a world-class education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Training for teachers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.mb.com.ph\/2020\/01\/03\/deped-fast-tracks-educators-academies-more-teacher-plantilla-positions-for-quality-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) <\/a>is also being reassessed to improve training and development for teachers to be assigned in public elementary and high schools.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to DepEd,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">NEAP will facilitate in meeting the demand for professional competence and leadership excellence in the education sector.<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The agency is expected to focus on three key areas &#8211; training and development, program and development, and research and development.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Briones admitted that the recent education rankings that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/pisa-baseline-deped-underlying-factors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dragged the Philippine education in a shaming spot<\/a> served as a wake-up call to review and improve the quality of education in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After addressing the concern in access to education, DepEd relies on its\u00a0&#8220;Sulong Edukalidad&#8221;\u00a0program to uplift education quality in the Philippines.
