{"id":21934,"date":"2019-09-17T15:47:45","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T15:47:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=21934"},"modified":"2019-09-17T15:47:45","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T15:47:45","slug":"racist-assaults-university-of-arizona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/racist-assaults-university-of-arizona\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona University witnesses racist assaults"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>On September 13, two (2) University of Arizona students were charged with racist assault on a fellow black student at the confines of a residence hall.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<b>\u00a0The accused Arizona students named Matthew Rawlings and Matthew Frazier aged nineteen (19) and twenty (20) respectively carried the racist attack by kicking, punching, tackling, and using the N-word a couple of times.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>Protests by Arizona students spark arrests<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The arrest of the two Arizona students was triggered by protests by enraged colleagues who felt that the police department at the university was not doing enough to address the situation.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, Rawlings and Frazier had been referred to the office of the dean of students as compared to being charged with racist assault.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>The Arizona Black Student Union crafted the demonstrations. Later on, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/tucson.com\/news\/local\/black-student-beaten-kicked-and-called-n-word-according-to\/article_59458abd-2ac1-52d9-9baa-575db581ca65.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>hundreds of Arizona students <\/b><\/a><b>took part in the protests where they depicted their anger and frustrations about how Arizona police were handling the situation.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was stipulated that Rawlings would face the dean of students as compared to being arrested because of underage alcohol possession.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Outrage by Arizona Black Student Union<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The union representing black students at the University of Arizona was got furious because justice did not prevail on the part of the victim.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<b>As a result, many Arizona students got upset because they believed the attacks were racially motivated, but the police had decided to ignore this fact.
