{"id":21069,"date":"2019-09-09T12:43:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T12:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=21069"},"modified":"2019-09-09T12:43:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T12:43:00","slug":"4-future-science-awardees-await-china-fete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/4-future-science-awardees-await-china-fete\/","title":{"rendered":"4 Future Science Awardees await China fete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/future-science-prize.nature.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Future Science Prize<\/b><\/a><b>, one of the most important Chinese science awards, has announced this year\u2019s four winners will be crowned during a ceremony to be held in China.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The prize was first introduced back in 2016 and is the first such award, which is entirely private, without any ties to governmental institutions.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shao Feng was awarded a prize in the life sciences category, for discoveries related to inflammatory responses to pathogenic bacteria.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wang Yifang and Kam-Biu Luk have both been awarded the prize in the physical sciences category, for their work on discovering a third pattern of neutrino oscillations.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Wang Xiaoyun is the awardee in the mathematics and computer science category. According to the award committee, Ms. Xiaoyun has revealed a critical glitch in the way modern cryptography hashes are structured and operated.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> What is even more impressive is that Ms. Xiaoyun is the first-ever female awardee of the Future Science Prize.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>The winners in each of the categories will be awarded one million United States dollars (USD 1 m), which are funded by the corporate sponsors of the Future Science Prize. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All awardees were chosen out of a pool of impressive scientists, who have presented original research and discoveries in any of the three categories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Future science and education<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Science-based disciplines are becoming increasingly popular among students. <\/span><b>There is an increase in the number of Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/3-communities-foster-stem-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>STEM<\/b><\/a><b>) students globally.<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This increase is not surprising considering the fast-paced development of technology.
