{"id":20639,"date":"2019-09-01T16:42:10","date_gmt":"2019-09-01T16:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=20639"},"modified":"2019-09-01T16:42:10","modified_gmt":"2019-09-01T16:42:10","slug":"un-oceans-are-under-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/un-oceans-are-under-threat\/","title":{"rendered":"Oceans are under threat, UN warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>According to a recent ocean envoy sent by the <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>United Nations<\/b><\/a><b> (UN), the world is facing serious trouble, as global warming is taking a toll on the worlds\u2019 oceans.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not only that, but the enormous amounts of pollution produced by humans are becoming unmanageable, and marine wildlife is suffering.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Peter Thomson, part of the ocean envoy, explained that the situation is more critical than governments and the public think, and there is an urgent need for action.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> According to Mr. Thomson, there are no simple solutions to this crisis, and humanity should act if we want to continue living on Earth.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>The UN has been issuing warning reports and messages for years now; however, governments around the world are slow to react.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> According to Mr. Thomson, there is an urgent need for a global resolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oceans are under threat, the Amazon is burning<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>A global ecological and climate crisis is taking over the world, and governments and not-for-profit organizations should adopt urgent measures.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The oceans are under threat, but this is not our only concern. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/amazon-rainforest-fire-up-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazon rainforest is burning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as vast areas near the Sahara desert.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Works are underway on a global ocean treaty, which is about to be announced in 2020, however, waiting until then might be a bit too late.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> According to the most recent reports, more than sixty-six percent (66%) of the world&#8217;s oceans are already profoundly affected by adverse human activities and global warming.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>There have indeed been some efforts to reduce the effects of global warming.
