{"id":20488,"date":"2019-08-29T14:18:51","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T14:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=20488"},"modified":"2019-08-29T14:18:51","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T14:18:51","slug":"nanoparticle-mix-grants-infrared-vision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/nanoparticle-mix-grants-infrared-vision\/","title":{"rendered":"Nanoparticle mix grants infrared vision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Scientists have been able to utilize a nanoparticle solution to increase an ordinary mouse&#8217;s capability of seeing things in near-infrared.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zmescience.com\/science\/scientists-create-supermice-that-can-see-infrared-light\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Researchers from the Massachusetts Medical School<\/a> discovered that upon the injection of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) to the mice&#8217;s eyes, an infrared vision was incorporated for nearly ten (10) weeks.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The researchers evaluated the behavioral and physiological responses of the mice when viewing infrared light.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nThe nanoparticle solution contains the rare-earth elements erbium and ytterbium, which can convert low-energy infrared photons into higher-energy green light that is visible.<br \/>\n<strong>Gang Han, the project\u2019s principal investigator, explains that people are only able to see a certain level of light. However, he asserts that this can be changed if people possessed infrared vision.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, people may use their naked eyes to visualize infrared astronomy. They might also view things at night with the absence of bulky equipment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Infrared vision limitation<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>It has been stipulated that people can generally see due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zmescience.com\/science\/biology\/how-the-eye-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retina\u2019s photoreceptor cells<\/a> absorption of light photons. Later on, the emerging electric signals are sent to the brain.<\/b><br \/>\nInfrared vision is, however, hindered because not all of the available light gets absorbed, but only certain wavelengths.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, people are only able to see narrow wavelengths of visible light or electromagnetic spectrum.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expressly, the visible spectrum ranges from three hundred and eighty (380) nanometers to seven hundred and forty (740) nanometers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conversely, the infrared spectrum has a wavelength of beyond eight hundred (800) nanometers. As a result, people\u2019s infrared vision is hindered.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Specialized equipment needed for infrared vision<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>People usually need specialized equipment, such as thermal cameras or telescopes, to see infrared light emitted by various objects.\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\nThis is made possible because thermal cameras have detectors that come in handy in translating infrared radiation, whereby every temperature is assigned a color shade.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colder temperatures have a shade of green, purple, or blue color, whereas hotter ones are assigned a yellow, orange, or red color.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Different scientific studies have been taking place across the globe intended to enhance human capabilities.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/human-monkey-embryos-made-in-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in China, human-monkey embryos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are being made with the ultimate purpose of developing feasible human organs for transplantation purposes.
