{"id":19945,"date":"2019-08-18T09:32:42","date_gmt":"2019-08-18T09:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=19945"},"modified":"2019-08-18T09:32:42","modified_gmt":"2019-08-18T09:32:42","slug":"inclusive-activities-mental-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/inclusive-activities-mental-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Inclusive activities break stigma on mental health issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>A joint project between several student clubs at Indiana University and the not-for-profit organization Bring Change to Mind has resulted in several inclusive activities to help break the stigma surrounding young adults with mental health issues.<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jaacap.org\/article\/S0890-8567(19)31434-0\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> done after the initiative began, these inclusive activities helped students and faculty on campus to form contacts and relationships with their mentally ill peers, which resulted in a change in attitude for many of the young adults. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study asked the graduating class of 2019 to submit their opinions when they were freshmen and again this year before they graduated. The results of the study were stunning.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Activities during the initiative included fashion shows and regular club meetings open to all students on campus.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inclusive activities\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mental health is a significant subject, and educational institutions have a long way to go. <\/span><b>However, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.higheredtoday.org\/2019\/08\/12\/college-student-mental-health-well-survey-college-presidents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>statistics<\/b><\/a><b> show that college presidents are increasingly making efforts to better the environment for students with mental health issues.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, more than seventy percent of survey respondents say that there has been an increase in the amount of funding allocated for improvements related to mental health.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>There is an excellent development in the United States in terms of acceptance levels and forward-thinking when it comes to mental health in the educational system.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mental health in education around the world<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mental health is becoming a significantly more critical aspect of school life. Unfortunately, in some cases, the school environment is a leading cause of mental health issues among students.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>For example, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/more-students-korea-suicidal-thoughts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>statistics<\/b><\/a><b> show that more than thirty percent (30%) of students in South Korea have had suicidal thoughts at least once.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> According to experts in the mental health sphere, these thoughts were provoked by conditions like depression and anxiety.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In spite of such worrying statistics, the general trend around the world is that mental health issues are getting better recognized by leading figures in education.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A joint project between several student clubs at Indiana University and the not-for-profit organization Bring Change to Mind has resulted in several inclusive activities to help break the stigma surrounding young adults with mental health issues.
