{"id":18811,"date":"2019-07-26T10:25:57","date_gmt":"2019-07-26T10:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=18811"},"modified":"2019-07-26T10:25:57","modified_gmt":"2019-07-26T10:25:57","slug":"digital-skills-curriculum-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/digital-skills-curriculum-in-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital skills added to special education curriculum in Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Four schools in Singapore have announced that they will be improving their curriculum by adding primary digital education for the students.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> According to the Infocomm Media Development Authority (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.imda.gov.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IMDA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">), the decision to upgrade the curriculums of four special education institutions in Singapore comes after a test run with about seventy students was completed earlier this year.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The changes in the curriculum will introduce<\/span><b> education on essential digital skills, like sending emails and paying bills online.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The idea behind these changes is to give children the <\/span><b>basic skills they need to be able to perform everyday tasks once they leave school.<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the principle of one of the participating schools, these changes are more than necessary as Singapore is moving towards becoming a Smart Nation. If <\/span><b>children with special learning needs are not taught digital essentials they will feel even more neglected in the future.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Digital skills education in Singapore<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In order to provide the children with the necessary skills, <\/span><b>the government has also implemented a virtual reality game in the curriculum.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> While the country has to deal with a number of problems regarding the educational system, like the high levels of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/more-students-korea-suicidal-thoughts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> students face, the development of digital education is on point.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Improving the digital skills of children with learning disabilities is not only forward-thinking on the government\u2019s part, but also an incredible way to make these kids feel included.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The world is becoming more digital by the minute and everyone deserves a chance to take advantage of new technologies, including students with learning disabilities. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four schools in Singapore have announced that they will be improving their curriculum by adding primary digital education for the students.
