{"id":18765,"date":"2019-07-25T10:23:59","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T10:23:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=18765"},"modified":"2019-07-25T10:23:59","modified_gmt":"2019-07-25T10:23:59","slug":"headteachers-ireland-industrial-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/headteachers-ireland-industrial-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Worried headteachers in Northern Ireland may turn to industrial action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Headteachers and principals across Northern Ireland have expressed their intentions to move towards industrial action<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in response to the spreading crisis in the educational system in the country.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Geri Cameron, a representative of the National Association of Head Teachers (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naht.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NAHT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">), <\/span><b>there has been no real action by the government to try and deal with the problems of education in Ireland,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> which is why teachers are going to take the matter in their own hands.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ms. Cameron also added that education institutions in Northern Ireland were the ones affected most by recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/northern-ireland-funding-for-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">budget cuts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, compared to all schools across the whole United Kingdom. <\/span><b>Teachers all over Ireland have been actively trying to manage with reduced funding; however<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the pressure put on them is unbearable, which is why the union is going to be looking into industrial action as their next move.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Headteachers and special education<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many of the concerns of headteachers revolve around the significant lack of funding for special education. <\/span><b>The biggest problem is that there is a rising number of children who are looking to take part in the SEND program,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> which covers special educational needs and disabilities. Unfortunately, schools do not have enough resources to provide adequate education to the rising number of SEND pupils.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While the United Kingdom government is actively working on improving special education across the country, the recent budget cuts make this task extremely difficult.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>On top of the lack of funding for schools, parents are also on edge, because they cannot afford to cover school costs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> like uniforms and stationery materials.
