{"id":18360,"date":"2019-07-10T11:02:44","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T11:02:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.englishforums.com\/news\/?p=18360"},"modified":"2019-07-10T11:02:44","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T11:02:44","slug":"school-principal-deny-holocaust-fact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/news\/school-principal-deny-holocaust-fact\/","title":{"rendered":"A high school principal was reassigned after adamantly denying Holocaust as fact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>William Latson, the Florida high school principal, was reported to be removed from his seat because of telling that &#8220;not everyone believes the Holocaust happened&#8221; via email exchanges with a mother a year ago.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The report was confirmed on Monday by the Palm Beach County school district and soon take off William Latson from his position.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a statement, the district further emphasized:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIn addition to being offensive, the principal\u2019s statement is not supported by either the School District Administration or the School Board.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The denial of having the Holocaust in the school curriculum was disturbed and that it should be &#8220;based on historical fact,&#8221; the statement added.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>The Palm Beach Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmbeachpost.com\/news\/20190705\/spanish-river-highs-principal-refused-to-call-holocaust-fact?educationgroup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released the email exchanges <\/a>with a parent that dates back a year ago after gaining the approval of open records request.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As the paper went on, Latson penned:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Not everyone believes the Holocaust happened. And you have your thoughts, but we are a public school and not all of our parents have the same beliefs.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The school district didn&#8217;t see the issue not only as &#8220;offensive.&#8221; It was an act that the district believes that caused discord which they put it as <strong>&#8220;a major distraction for the school community.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A formal apology was released last week by Latson to the Palm Beach Post saying:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI regret that the verbiage that I used when responding to an email message from a parent, one year ago, did not accurately reflect my professional and personal commitment to educating all students about the atrocities of the Holocaust.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Latson currently has no specification for his job reassignment while the school district looks for his replacement.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Should the principal be removed based on an email sent a year ago?
