{"id":518,"date":"2019-06-20T16:43:20","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T15:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/englishforums.com\/blog\/?p=518"},"modified":"2019-06-20T16:43:20","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T15:43:20","slug":"the-top-20-most-beautiful-english-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.englishforward.com\/blog\/the-top-20-most-beautiful-english-words\/","title":{"rendered":"The Top 20 Most Beautiful English Words"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There is a popular English saying that \u201cBeauty is in the eye of the beholder \u201c.This implies that one of the <strong>great marvels of life is that each one of us sees things differently, and each one of us has different things that we find beautiful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p>So when I say \u201csunset\u201d, a word describing an event, based on your experience, where you live, what you love, what you do and what defines \u201csunset\u201d to you, the word will invoke different responses and feelings in you.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The word might conjure up images and memories of wonderful sunsets that you spent with loved ones, of red and orange hues as the sun sinks down over the ocean and your world is bathed in soft warm light and everything is at peace. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>It brings back hundreds of happy memories for me as it is a very special time of day to me.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m going to describe some of the words that I find beautiful and useful, and hope you will be able to use them in your life because I think that <strong>beauty can also be useful and the wonderful thing about learning English is that words can be used to describe and connect each one of us to other people. Here\u2019s how I\u2019ve grouped them:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Four distinct groups of beautiful English words<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ol><li>Words that create pictures in my mind<\/li><li>Words that create a human connection<\/li><li>Words that ripple beautifully off my tongue<\/li><li>Words that are aspirational<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Group 1: Picture words<\/h1>\n\n\n<ul><li>Banked &#8211; the conscious checking off or \u201cdepositing \u201c of a good memory, relationship or experience into my memory bank which confirms to me that life is good<\/li><li>Time &#8211; how we spend our days <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<ul><li>Pristine \u2013 clean and fresh as if new, untouched, spotless as in a wave at the sea<\/li><li>Waves &#8211; a long body of water curling into an arched form and breaking on the seashore<\/li><li>Memories &#8211; something special remembered from the past, a person or event, happy thoughts<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Group 2: Connection Words<\/h1>\n\n\n<ul><li>Hope \u2013 a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.<\/li><li>Empathy &#8211; the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person or animal.<\/li><li>Love &#8211; an intense feeling of deep affection you have for something<\/li><li>Gratitude \u2013 the quality of being thankful, readiness to show appreciation and return kindness.<\/li><li>Music &#8211; something that is very pleasant or gratifying to hear or discover. Often connects memories<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Group 3: Words that ripple beautifully off my tongue<\/h1>\n\n\n<ul><li>Blissfulness \u2013 full of and abounding in joy.<\/li><li>Epiphany &#8211; a moment of sudden and great revelation or realization.<\/li><li>Effervescent \u2013 vivacious and enthusiastic, giving off bubbles; fizzy.<\/li><li>Awesomeness \u2013 an immeasurable amount of wonder produced by the word<\/li><li>Eloquence &#8211; fluent or persuasive speaking or writing.
