Over 8,500 institutions accept it across 130 countries, including the UK, USA, and Australia, as well as all of the world’s top 100 universities.

International students who have earned a bachelor’s degree after at least (2) years of study from a U.S. institution or an institution in an English-speaking country are not required to take the TOEFL or IELTS. Certain universities will waive the requirement for international students who have studied for at least 4 years in the United States.

There are minimum scores required in order to be accepted into the top universities. Scores above the minimum will increase your chance of being admitted into the university, while scores below the minimum will guarantee you being denied admittance.

Taking a TOEFL Course is deemed imperative for those who scored lower by less than 20 points and supposedly guarantees to achieve the target score after learning the best test-taking strategies. Are there no other options to measure English proficiency?

What are the Guarantees?

If you want to take the TOEFL, it is very important first to get familiar with the TOEFL format. You can either check out the official TOEFL website to find information on the test format, find answers to your questions and to locate your testing centers.

Another excellent resource to familiarize yourself with the whole TOEFL is the TOEFL Review. Most sites offer a complete TOEFL course, including video lessons, hundreds of practice questions (with video explanations on how to answer them), study schedules and support from teachers.

The resources are guaranteed for learning how the TOEFL exam works—and how to get a high score on it. It even has courses that are specialized to get you prepared for the exam in any amount of time: One year, one month or even one week!

Take a look at some examples of some TOEFL test questions. This will help you gain further understanding of the types of questions to expect. Read the questions carefully. Try to answer them and then check the answers.

This will help you gain further understanding of the types of questions to expect. Read the questions carefully. Try to answer them and then check the answers.

Do Realities Meet Expectations?

One week before a candidate took the TOEFL test, he took some practice with a TOEFL Reviewer whose facilitator explained how to score well on the TOEFL iBT. The latter is not exactly measuring English skills, but a candidate has to know different kinds of tricks which are not even related to English skills.

For the Speaking part, the test requires to say everything in 45 sec or 60 sec ( no more, no less). The voice is recorded and later scored by a certified ETS rater. It is similar to a rapper contest without the rhythm. So despite the TOEFL Review, you are likely to fail the Speaking part if you have not practiced at this rate.

What are the accommodations for LOW scores?

For low scores, you may request toeflsupport4XXXXX@ets.org to see your corrected exam. Here is the answer you will receive:

Keep in mind that you can only ask only 1 score review per test administration, and there is a cost of US$80 for each section. Both sections together cost US$160.

If the review results in a change in your scores (either higher or lower), your new scores will be posted to your TOEFL online account, and you will receive a revised test taker score report if you requested a paper copy before you took the test. The revised scores will become your official scores.

How qualified are TOEFL examiners?

Here are the requirements for the scoring job opportunities ( note this is not specific for TOEFL). The Online Network for Evaluation (ONE) is ETS’s proprietary software application that enables Raters to score test-taker responses and/or other submitted work via secure Internet access.

Raters typically score from their homes or offices, in accordance with ETS guidelines. Online scoring sessions may occasionally be conducted at regional sites.

Improvement of the atmosphere, organization, and preparation were also common complaints.

One candidate reports, “Indeed strategy is important, but the fact that the test evaluation is not equal to every test taker is a bit concerning.

“I think they should cancel the long formats especially in the Reading and Listening sections to allow a better and fairer evaluation atmosphere.”

Just our perspective.
